2013-08-03 20:52:51 -0500 asked a question problem with camera settings drifting

I have a Logitech C920, and I am running Windows 7.

The programs I am writing will work for a little while, but the settings on the camera drift even when I leave it alone, and let it sit, and there is no change in lighting.

What can I do to make this camera just accept some settings and leave everything else well enough alone? I've turned off all the "auto" functions in the software that came with the camera, but my image keeps changing anyway, and SimpleCV can no longer find the objects it has been trained to see.

2013-07-18 14:04:05 -0500 asked a question Facial comparison

Would it be possible to take two photographs of a person's face, and compare them to see if it is the same person?

I'm thinking about writing a program that verifies someone's age by comparing their face to their driver's license, so it would need a high degree of accuracy.

What will be the benefit of this? New features? Faster performance?

2013-05-19 04:42:37 -0500 commented answer Bitmap and keypoint matching on simple geometry

For some reason, I've been getting results with findTemplate() today. Still having trouble with findKeypointMatch(). So findTemplate() returns a FeatureSet, with features sorted from worst to best, and "feat[-1]" is returning the last feature in the list?

I'm trying to find this image:

in this image:

and it is just not happening. I've had better results with more complicated images, so I'm guessing that is the problem. Is there anything I can do about that? I've tweaked the Keypoint quality and minMatch thresholds to no avail.

pygame seems to be installed. This is an older installation from January. I might should just re-install the latest version. I've also noticed that the plot function isn't working. I'm not sure if that's because of something omitted in the book, or if I just have a buggy install. Apparently, I don't has Matplotlib, which is not mentioned in the book.

2013-04-28 15:00:55 -0500 commented answer Is there letter and number detection in SimpleCV?

Depends on what you're trying to do. I'll be trying to use it to read a hexadecimal number, so In my case, 16. If he is reading words and numbers, he'll need at least 26 upper case, 26 lower case, and 10 digits, possibly punctuation.

If you know what font is being used, could you just use template matching for the characters, and use the x,y coordinates to reconstruct text?

2013-04-27 02:17:48 -0500 asked a question Error with example from page 25

I'm trying to get this to work:

from SimpleCV import Display, Image
import time

display = Display()

Image("lenna2.png").save(display)

print "I lauched a window"

while not display.isDone():
    print "loop"
    time.sleep(0.1)

print "You closed the window"

But it is throwing this error When I [x] out of the window (I'm on Windows 7):

Traceback (most recent call last):
File "C:\Python27\ComputerVision\HelloBook5sec.py", line 10, in <module> while not display.isDone(): File "C:\Python27\lib\site-packages\SimpleCV\Display.py", line 650, in isDone self.checkEvents() File "C:\Python27\lib\site-packages\SimpleCV\Display.py", line 615, in checkEvents pressed = pg.key.get_pressed() error: video system not initialized

I tried it using

while display.isNotDone():

Instead, and got this error:

Traceback (most recent call last):
File "C:\Python27\ComputerVision\HelloBook5sec.py", line 10, in <module> while display.isNotDone(): File "C:\Python27\lib\site-packages\SimpleCV\Display.py", line 672, in isNotDone return not self.isDone() File "C:\Python27\lib\site-packages\SimpleCV\Display.py", line 650, in isDone self.checkEvents() File "C:\Python27\lib\site-packages\SimpleCV\Display.py", line 615, in checkEvents pressed = pg.key.get_pressed() error: video system not initialized

Googling the phrase "video system not initialized" seems to get mostly hits about PyGame. Could this be a problem with my installation? I installed Python 2.7 and Simple CV a few months ago, and seem to remember having some kind of trouble with paths, but I thought I worked it out.

Did a manual reinstall (not superpack). It worked, but only after adding quotation marks around C:/Python27/;C:/Python27/Scripts/;C:/OpenCV2.3/opencv/build/x86/vc10/bin/;%PATH% when adding Python to Path.

The first error it throws is at the very beginning of the installation:

ERROR: Invalid syntax. Default option is not allowed more than '2' time(s). Type "SETX /?" for usage.

2013-01-26 02:40:02 -0500 asked a question Can't install SimpleCV Windows 7 (64 bit)?

There's no SimpleCV folder in my start menu like I expected, and for some reason, I can't even open IDLE in Python 2.7, though IDLE will open in Python 2.6, but gives me "ImportError: No module named SimpleCV" If I try to import SimpleCV.

I had an OpenCV installation already on my computer from a couple of years ago. I uninstalled it, and then uninstalled and reinstalled Simple CV. Didn't help.

I have a screenshot of the installer before it closed the last time I attempted to install SimpleCV. There was a lot of "ImportError:" and "File Not Found *.py", "File Not Found *.dll", "File Not Found *.pyd", "'pip' is not recognized as an internal or external command", etc.

Should I just uninstall all python from my computer and try to reinstall SimpleCV?

ETA: The first error it throws is at the very beginning:

"ERROR: Invalid syntax. Default option is not allowed more than '2' time(s). Type "SETX /?" for usage."

I did uninstall both Python 2.6 and 2.7 from my computer, and then reinstall SimpleCV, with slightly better results. I an now work in IDLE, and the Hello World program works, but I'm still not finding a SimpleCV shell.
