image training or cascade training random shapes?

I'm learning SimpleCV/OpenCV and have programs that can detect shapes, insert text, basically most of the stuff in the guides. I'm not sure where to start on having it recognize logos.. let's just take the simpleCV logo. As an example program, I could look for the specific shade of gray, isolate it, but i'm not sure how to get it to recognize a pattern of interesting points that could be scaled larger or smaller. I think this is where cascade classifier training, or image training, normally comes in.. Or is there a easier way? What would be a simple way to recognize, for example, logos (which are a mix of text and shapes and colors but I would think there would be a simple way of identifying them since they don't change, if the program has a "key" or "template" image). I'm hoping this is a easy question and I'm just tired.
