I cannot get the SimpleCV display window to respond, it pops up alright, but never shows an image, and if I close it the program crashes. I have freshly installed the V1.3 Superpack on windows XP with python 2.7. I have tried it through the python command line and idle, with both import * and running SimpleCV shell, always with the same result. It even happens when I follow the first inbuilt tutorial through python command line.

Anyone else encountered this? Thanks

Edit: Re installed PIL-1.1.7, pictures now actually appear, but still don't respond

Reply: .live() works fine, tried it for pictures and a webcam. I think I've got it to a point where it is somewhat bearable. If I create an object to show, i.e: a = img.show() Then I can go a.quit(), as long as I don't need to move the display window.

Unfortunate that XP isn't supported, I have a Ubuntu10.04 install too, but I had even bigger problems and it wouldn't even open Shell without some errors related to OpenCV. I think I will start another question page detailing that later.

Can you try image.live() and let me know if you are getting the issue.

As xamox mentioned above, image.live() solves the problem for me. I now get a window where the left-click prints the (x,y) coordinates of the mouse pointer to the shell output. And right-click kills the image.

I hope this helps. (I'm using SimpleCV on Win7)

This is a crappy answer, but we don't officially support Windows XP. If you are having window crash errors it is likely a pygame issue. You may want to look into pygame's support for XP. Alternatively you could try using SimpleCV in web notebook mode.

What's a web notebook mode?

Google Ipython notebook and you will learn about running python in the browser. Also, see PyCon 2013 youtube video on the simplecv.org LEARN page. BUT, I cannot get SimpleCV to work in notebook. notebook launches but img.save(display) does not work and I have to close the program to restart it. Apparently the latest version of Ipython (1.0.1) cannot be used. I had to use Ipython 0.13.1 to launch the notebook. But once it launches, img.save(display) does not display inline. A window pops up and the program stops responding. Did anyone ever get SimpleCV to work with notebook? with notebook pylab --inline ?? If so, what versions of each library did you use? SimpleCV seems to be a bundle of libraries with dependencies that are so brittle that nothing works. I'm using Windows 7 64-bit.
