I've just installed SimpleCV on Mac OS X Lion, following the instructions on the website. It wasn't an easy installation had to remove macports to get brew to work correctly. And I had to reinstall scipy when I first tried loading the shell. Now I get the above error message.

This is what I get following your instructions

So the paths are different. I am know that Lion does funky stuff with python paths. Perhaps you should try sym-linking the path where PIL lives to where SimpleCV wants PIL to live.

Do you have a bit more of stack trace that we can look at it? We need a bit more to go on as we have never seen this error before. Looks like perhaps PIL is being imported twice. Here is what a quick googling turned up.

Can you run ipython and import simplecv? What about pil or Image? what is the path to pil use the PIL.file command? Here is an example from my system (I am using Snow Leopard).

kscottz:~ katherinescott$ ipython
