I have been able to get SimpleCV working on my mac running 10.8.4. I was working on getting my kinect to work with this when SimpleCV gave an error that freenect is not installed

Using Homebrew, I successfully installed libfreenect to the following directory

/usr/local/Cellar/libfreenect/0.2.0

When I returned to the SimpleCV terminal, and tried to initialize a Kinect() object, I get the following warning.

WARNING: You don't seem to have the freenect library installed. This will make it hard to use a Kinect.

Do I need to add the lib freenect path somewhere or create and alias to get SimpleCV to recognize the install?

Thanks for any help on this question

Having the same problem on Rasbian using a basic simplecv example.

from SimpleCV import Kinect

kin = Kinect()

depth = kin.getDepth()

WARNING: You don't seem to have the freenect library installed. This will make it hard to use a Kinect.

You need to install the python wrappers for libfreenect.

Find the setup file in the libfreenect/wrappers/python folder then do

python setup.py install

Once that finishes you should be able to do

python
import freenect

With this taken care of, those SimpleCV examples for the kinect should now work.

Are you sure you also have the libfreenect python drivers installed?

ipython
import freenect

HI. Sorry to bump this, but Ive tried many things and cannt get Kinect to work. Same problem, same install, same error message. Did you solve this? Regards.

Well, I got the answer but Im really tempted not to place it in this forum where Mac questions are never answered even by the Forum Administrators.

Google it, work like two days and probably you will find the answer.
