I am installing SimpleCV on Centos6 x86-64 using the instructions on

Specifically, this is what I am following:

sudo yum -y install python-ipython opencv-python scipy numpy pygame python-setuptools

python-pip git

git clone

cd SimpleCV/

sudo python install

After I do the following statements, errors result.

import SimpleCV

ImportError: No module named

Ps. I have experience installing SimpleCV on Windows. Normally I would move the and cv2.pyd files from opencv>build>python>2.6 into the site-packages of python to get it to work.

However in this situation, on Centos, the file structure is different, (there's no build directory inside the opencv directory). Fortunately, I was able to find It was already in site-packages. However I was unable to locate anywhere.

I have three questions.

    1. Is there supposed to be a build directory inside of the opencv directory on CentOS6?
    2. If yes, what do you suggest I do to fix the problem?
    3. Do you know where I can find a pre-compiled version of for CentOS6 x86_64?
    4. I am able to find , but no . Do you suggest going into the SimpleCV file (line 54) editing it so it says:
    import cv
    *instead of*
    import as cv
    Is that a good idea ?

I had the same problem as the OP, but on Windows 7 64-bit. I was using OpenCV2.3. I managed to fix the problem by installing OpenCV2.4.5 and building it from scratch, as suggested by the poster above me.

Hope this helps!
